We knew this was coming - check out the last paragraph of the "Time for a Rant" post back in April about Ronnie Earle vs. Tom Delay. I wrote that after reading an Esquire feature about Earle who, on the verge of retirement, stumbled onto the Delay/TRMPAC case and was so enraged by the "above the law" audacity of it he just couldn't let it go. His wife told him not to take the case... to go ahead and retire. Said he had nothing left to prove since he was respected by Dems and Repubs alike in Texas and even nationally. His colleagues described him as the last of a dying breed... seeking only justice, irreplaceable in that respect. Over the course of his career, where party affiliation was an issue, he prosecuted more Dems than Repubs. Now, he's "a partisan wacko only trumping up charges against Delay because Delay's a Republican." Please.
By the way, anyone catch Delay's overzealous proclamation of innocence on TV? Did it look and sound a little too much like, "I never had sexual relations with that woman..."
But, of course, the comparison stops there. After all, Delay is only being accused of manipulating a federal election by violating federal law pouring millions of illegally raised funds into it. C'mon... this is a fishing expedition... nowhere near as critical to national security as Clinton's sexual exploits. If only Kenneth Starr had spent a few million more of our dollars, maybe he could have convicted Clinton and solved all of our country's problems.
Smell ya later,

As he proclaimed his innocence, would that be for the original indictment or for indictment #2?? Next it will be Bill Frist for pulling a Martha Stewart. Who will be next?? That's not soooo bad, Clinton probably had that many people in trouble in the first couple weeks in office.
Before you defend Ronnie Earle as a moral and righteous person, you might be interested in knowing that there is a film crew documenting Ronnie Earle's 'heroics'. This crew was even granted permission by Earle to record the grand jury deliberations. Why would such an upstanding prosecutor let cameras into a grand jury deliberation?
The answer is easy. There is no happy ending to the Earle documentary unless the public sees Delay's face on TV with the word "indicted" underneath it. For Earle, an indictment is a win - no need for a conviction because the damage is done. Old Ronnie gets to write his own ending to his self-titled documentary. Funny how the liberal media never mentions that.
Also, I'm wondering, when does $190,000 equal "millions"? You're stretching the facts just as much as Earle.
Of course the answer to your anonymously posted rhetorical question is easy. Everything is easy when you see the world from a grossly oversimplified perspective. The problem is, no one actually lives in a world like that. It doesn't exist. Here's a lesson in how the real world works: $190,000 = millions because the $190,000 is the only amount for which there remains evidence. Just like the first time you got busted drinking underage or cheating on a test probably wasn't actually the first time you'd done it. Here are some questions along the same vein: When did a stain on a dress become a matter of national security? A private affair between two consenting adults in the most secure office in the country? I guess I'll never understand where these simple rules apply and where they don't.
Maybe Ronnie Earle doesn't either so he goes for what he can get knowing that justice in Texas is doled out by the Friends of W rather than the courts so the news coverage is all he can hope for. News being what it is today, if he doesn't allow the whole story to be recorded, it probably won't be. It'll get lost like W's criminal records and his DD214. There has never been an administration more capable of quieting issues so quickly in the media. And when it comes to stretching the facts, let's talk justification for war... a slightly more significant issue than whether or not a politician is involved in shady dealings. Somehow that issue seems to have been relegated to the back burner as well while the Americans who don't raise millions continue to die for the cause that's never been fully or consistently explained.
Has there ever been an administration capable of more indictments?? What about the Nixon era?? Or better yet, what about all of the people that Clinton had killed on his rise to the top?? At least according to the book "Dereliction of Duty"?
Maybe I should give you a few more facts about Ronnie Earle that are emerging in today's news. On Sunday, a grand jury convened by Earle refused to hand down an indictment because there simply was no evidence. Angered, he convened another grand jury, which again would not hand down an indictment. Finally, after shopping all day for a grand jury that would hand down an indictment, he got what he wanted with a third jury. What kind of fair prosecutor is that? He shops for a jury until he gets what he wants? Believe me, Ronnie Earle is very likely to find himself is some deep legal doo-doo. This is even being reported by the most liberal of media outlets, including CNN.
The administration doesn't have issues to quiet when there isn't an issue in the first place. The Delay/Earle case is an example. Another example is the Dan Rather forged document case. Everybody on both sides of the ball agrees that the documents were clearly forged, and yet the left says "ok, the documents are forged, but we still think the story is true." Say what??!!
Lastly, I'll make a brief comment about the justification for the war. For some reason, the left seems to forget that Democrats and Republicans alike voted for this. They based their votes on what seemed to be the very real possibility that WMDs did exist. Our country was not the only one that had this point of view. Even the oil for food scammers like Russia and France thought Saddam had WMDs, but they didn't want to act and bite the hand that feeds them. So, we discovered that there weren't any WMDs. Are we to just pull out and leave the country in chaos? Are we to let the extremists create yet another dictatorship like the Taliban in Afghanistan? Remember, freedom and democracy are the enemies of extreme Islam, for their brand of religion cannot survive if the citizens have the right to choose for themselves. If we leave now, we will pay more dearly than we have already.
Of course Iraq had WMDs, we sold them to Iraq.
Re: Dan Rather, Where is W's DD214? Anyone that served has one....except him. How is that?? And how many Americans died when Dan told his story with the forged documents?
Why did we have to ignore the UN and invade? Why couldn't the sanctions have worked? Maybe it's not best solution, but at least we don't have to worry about pulling out when we're not in.
When will W's daughters enlist?? When will the sons and daughters of the rich start helping in the fight??
When will democracy work in the middle east??
How did they arrive at Iraq for a place to start bombing?? In bombing Iraq, we knew we'd have to search for the WMDs. Meanwhile, Korea is screaming at us saying "we've got nukes." Is the axis of evil just a bunch of bullshit?? to divert attention from Iraq??
What ever happened to the "big legal doo-doo" that Ronnie Earle was supposed to be in? Did it go away when that third indictment brought charges and convictions?
